That's true the PCM volume being zero it crackles. It just happened too many times with Opensuse and just now for somehow unknown reason with Ubuntu. 9.04. Would'nt it be possible to just make it silent when zero volume and solve the fact that it randomly becomes a zero PCM volume ?
