This error occurs to me since last night when I performed a "update- manager -d" from jaunty to karmic. The problem remains when I delete the applet and re-add it. sshmenu-gnome itself works fine when launched via command-line.
Besides SSHMENU, the only other applet having this problem is TDClientApplet (Terminal Server Client).
