Please re-open this.  The above solution did not work for me.  When I
ran pavucontrol, Firefox did not show up at all.  I'm wondering if this
has to do with the fact I installed Firefox 3.5 from a tarball rather
than from package update?  I've tried to upgrade to Firefox 3.5 via apt-
get, but it only wants to install 3.0.11.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04. Audio works in games, wine, vlc, audacity, and
other programs.  Firefox does play audio from some sites, just not in
flash-enabled video, like on Youtube or Facebook.  Facebook actually
prompts you to install the Adobe Flash player, which does not work.
