If laptop's AC adapter is plugged in, the temperature of the hard disk
increases very fast, up to close to 60 Celsius degrees, which is
maximum, according to Western Digital specifications. and that happens
without any apparent reason, I mean while browsing the Internet, reading
online an article or writting emails. The number of parkings is almost
constant in an hour.
If the AC adapter is unplugged and only the battery is providing power,
the heat is much lower, but the number of parkings is dramatically
increasing, almost 15 in a minute (at each 3 or 4 seconds I can hear a
click).
I tried ACPI=off but it didn't help, in that case the heat was fast
increasing even while running on battery only.
I have a laptop Fujitsu Siemens (Esprimo Mobile V6545) with 4 GB RAM
(one added by vendor), and Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty. And for checking the
above parameters, I used the commands: sudo hddtemp /dev/sda and
respectively sudo smartctl -a /dev/sda | grep Load_Cycle_Count .
It is so frustating that I think I can't let that continue anymore and
try another OS. Please help. Thanks.
