Two more things I'd ask you to do: First, please attach to the upstream bug report an example Xorg.0.log from one of the 2.7.99 cases, as it may have info upstream needs for debugging the problem. Second, could you re-run your tests against current updated Karmic with the 2.6.31 kernel?
