>From the lspci it looks like you might use the ath_pci driver (this is an alternate driver), however for the aspire one the ath5k (kernel driver) is the one that should be used (if you like you could install linux-backports-modules to get an updated ath5k which enables the wireless led). Could you check whether System->Administration->Hardware Drivers is set to use the alternate driver? Normally there should be a file called blacklist-ath_pci.conf in /etc/modprobe.d that blacklists the ath_pci driver.
