Tried the GSA-T40N on a couple other boxes with no luck; ended up buying a different USB writer from a different company. (Way past return/exchange date for the Dell purchase.) I've come to the conclusion that this particular unit was damaged, so I guess we can go ahead and mark this bug report as invalid or whatever.
