Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg
Distro: 9.10 Karmic
CPU: amd64

After an upgrade this morning, the following packages were upgraded:

replace x11-common 1:7.4~5ubuntu21 (using x11-common_1%3a7.4+3ubuntu2_all.deb)
replace w3m 0.5.2-2build1 (using w3m_0.5.2-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb)
replace libhal1 0.5.12+git20090626-0ubuntu1 (using
libhal1_0.5.12+git20090626-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb)
replace libhal-storage1 0.5.12+git20090626-0ubuntu1 (using
libhal-storage1_0.5.12+git20090626-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb)
replace hal 0.5.12+git20090626-0ubuntu1 (using
hal_0.5.12+git20090626-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb)
replace xbase-clients 1:7.4~5ubuntu21 (using
xbase-clients_1%3a7.4+3ubuntu2_all.deb)
replace libgksu2-0 2.0.10-1ubuntu1 (using libgksu2-0_2.0.12-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb)
replace xserver-xorg-video-all 1:7.4~5ubuntu21 (using
xserver-xorg-video-all_1%3a7.4+3ubuntu2_amd64.deb)
replace xserver-xorg-input-all 1:7.4~5ubuntu21 (using
xserver-xorg-input-all_1%3a7.4+3ubuntu2_amd64.deb)
replace xserver-xorg 1:7.4~5ubuntu21 (using
xserver-xorg_1%3a7.4+3ubuntu2_amd64.deb)
replace xorg 1:7.4~5ubuntu21 (using xorg_1%3a7.4+3ubuntu2_amd64.deb)

and upon rebooting (which I did right after upgrading), I cannot get to
the graphical login screen. It keeps telling me that it cannot set up
my display and offering to run in low graphic mode or reconfigure my
display. Neither works, and the xorg.0.log file seems to say nothing of
the problem. My nvidia 9600M GS card driver seems to load fine. I'm
enclosing the xorg log just in case, but I think there is a bug in the
new xorg packages... as this just came up after the above upgrade.
