The same problem experienced with uptodate Jaunty 64 bit + Dell Inspiron 9400 with 4GB installed memory (3.3 recognised). I can post detailed data but it looks and feels exactly the same way Catherine West detailed.
Network hiccups occur for a while and then dissapears.
