Derrick,

(1) bibledit-bin is explicitly not supposed to be run by hand. Its man
page says it is an internal command used by bibledit.

(2) If you used the Ubuntu packages, rather than trying to do things
yourself, it would be very difficult indeed to install bibledit without
bibledit-data, and so this condition (stylesheet does not exist) should
never occur in practice.

(3) Therefore, can you please duplicate this using the supplied Ubuntu
packages, rather than a local build? If you can provide full
instructions on how to duplicate the bug in Karmic, using the Karmic
packages, by running bibledit (not by running bibledit-bin by hand!),
that would be good. The version of Bibledit concerned is not
(officially) in Jaunty. It is (will be) in Karmic. So a set of
instructions such as:

  (A) In Ubuntu Karmic, install the bibledit-2.0-1package using sudo apt-get
install bibledit
  (B) Run bibledit from the menus
  (C) Do X, Y and Z (whatever is needed to cause the bug to show itself)
  (D) bibledit crashes with a SEGV...

are what would be most useful here.

If you are unable to run Karmic, please try to duplicate this issue
running the bibledit packages for Jaunty in our PPA at
https://launchpad.net/~pkgcrosswire/+archive/ppa/ instead, and provide
similar instructions.

Overall, if this is really a bug of consequence, it seems to me to be a
bug in bibledit itself, not in the packaging of it. You could check
that by doing a "from tarball" compile and install of bibledit and
duplicating the issue with that, if you wish.

If I am correct that this is an issue in bibledit itself, rather than
its packaging, then the most useful place to report that kind of issue
is probably to the "upstream" bibledit developers, which means using
their bugtracker on savannah.org. Failing that, post to the bt-devel
mailing list about what you have found. Patching this in Ubuntu, while
theoretically possible, is not really in the best interest of the wider
bibledit community -- such a patch really needs to be applied where it
does most good, which in this case is in the bibledit codebase itself.
