Hi. Thank you for your reply.
I tried the solution where I need to edit the /etc/hosts file. Yes, I
was able to connect to YM, but this also blocked GMail chat. Also,
though I was not able to verify, it seemed that it took longer for me to
connect to other Web sites. So I decided to revert back to the original
file. I hope that there would be a solution wherein I can chat the usual
way, to any IM server I wish to connect. Thank you!

better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug
389322, so it is being marked as such. This issue has been fixed upstream but
not yet in Ubuntu Jaunty.

Bug description:
Binary package hint: pidgin
None of my buddies are showing up on my linux based Yahoo IM on my
little netbook and yet they show up on my Windows Vista based OS
laptop. I can neither send nor receive Yahoo! IMs at present even
though my friends are saying I am showing up as online on their end and
they send me messages but I never get them on my Ubuntu Linux system.
