Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 9.04 fresh install
Did updates after install, as requested.
Suddenly ubuntu is not booting up anymore, giving the following:

acpi: aborted because no cpio magic
invalid compressed format (err=1)
kernel panic - not syncing: unable to mount root fs on unknown block(0,0)

Only happens when using the more recent 2.6.28-13 kernel.
If booting using the older -11 kernel then no problem.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1193970 for similar problems
with the same kernel

Thanks
