I found a source deb package and built for amd64. The version is tagged as "5.5-2kv0". I can send you the diff if you wish.
I still have the annoying scrolling problem with any other remotely-launched nedit's (various versions), but I suspect this is something with Xorg that changed in edgy. The same ones all work fine via my dapper box.
