Also suffering under this nasty bug using Kubuntu Jaunty AMD64 and kernel >= 2.6.28-11. Sound card is HDA Intel, Codec: IDT 92HD71B7X on a Dell Latitude E6500.
When booting with this configuration I get an error message "hda_intel: No response from codec, disabling MSI: last cmd=0x00171701". Sound works with kernel 2.6.27-14 which I still have installed on my box. The aforementioned error message doesn't appear with the old kernel.
