Public bug reported: Binary package hint: notify-osd
notify-osd's notifications aren't visible if GNOME Shell is running, unless you hover over them (in which case the semi-transparent version of them becomes visible). I don't know whether this is a problem in notify-osd or in gnome-shell but I wanted to make sure you know about it.
