Imho the main problem isn't the CPU but the GPU, I have an Asus F3jP with an Ati mobility x1700, I run a 9.04 ubuntu, and i undestand my pc become hot cause my GPU work always at full frequency! With old Ati driver I can set the frequency but now with this open driver I can't so my videocard work always at 452/351 MHz.
