Public bug reported:

After distribution upgrade from hardy to jaunty (amd64 here), it is no
longer possible to save the auto-upgrade/download settings in a
persistent manner. Changing the toggles works, but closing an re-opening
the dialog yields the old settings without the user's modifications.
