Here is an update of this bug. It is still present in Jaunty and can be reproduced with the Jaunty LiveCD. An updated test link is www.rath.org/output.pdf
The crucial trigger for the bug seems to be that the server delivers the PDF document as application/x-download. I guess that this causes firefox to try guess the actual content type, which it gets only halfway right ("PDF document" instead of the working "PDF file). Here are the requested debugging information (note that the bug appears without acroread installed): [0] vostro:~$ apt-cache policy evince evince: Installed: 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2.26.1-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2.26.0-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages [0] vostro:~$ apt-cache policy acroread acroread: Installed: (none) Candidate: 9.1.0-7jaunty2 Version table: 9.1.0-7jaunty2 0 500 http://archive.canonical.com jaunty/partner Packages [0] vostro:~$ apt-cache policy firefox-3.0 firefox-3.0: Installed: 3.0.11+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1 Candidate: 3.0.11+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1 Version table: *** 3.0.11+build2+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/main Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3.0.8+nobinonly-0ubuntu3 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages ** Changed in: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- Firefox cannot open some PDF files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/230627 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
