This is a problem which also occurs with UVUNTU 9.04. After trying several suggested solutions, I finally have installed version 7.04 (not recommended due to it no longer being supported), and have no such problems accessing USB drives or flash drives. My suspicion is that some new feature is somehow involved with inability to access USB drives. By now, considering several folks have reported similar problems, hopefully the new version will have somehow resolved this issue.
