I am electing that the version of virtualbox used in Karmic is moved to 2.2.4 at least. There are many serious bug fixes including this one from VirtualBox user FAQ: VBoxManage modifyhd --compact crashes or corrupts .the vdi image There is a bug in VirtualBox 2.2.2 which is fixed in later releases. Don't use this command with release 2.2.2 or your .vdi image might get corrupted! The info can be found here: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/User_FAQ I know that I have used that command on occasion.
