I also have the same problem on my HP Compaq Presario F762AU after a fresh install of Jaunty Jackalope.
On battery, Grub will load, then when the usplash screen should be loaded, nothing happens, until I press the "Enter" button which makes the bar run again. After disabling the splash screen, I could not find any line in the boot up process that indicates a problem. Again, I must press the "Enter" button until all processes have loaded. Hardy Heron did not give me such problems before. I previously ran Intrepid Ibex as a Live Session, and this exact problem struck my laptop. A factor which stopped me from upgrading.
