Neil Robinson, the pdftops filter which I have attached was only for testing. I have attached it to very many bugs (see bug 382379). If I get enough positive answers and no negative ones (or find fixes/workarounds for these users) I will integrate the new filter in our CUPS package so that it flows in automatically with updates. As long as the testing is not completed you will have to reinstall the file aftyer each CUPS update. There should not be too many CUPS updates when you are using a released Jaunty and not Karmic.
The pdftops which you have tested is already obsolete, as there is a new one fixing more regressions.
