Gavindi's solution works, in the sense that if I comment that line I have all volumes up after the desktop is loaded. But the strange thing is that it makes the "login sound" disappear. Summing up, this is how it works for me:
1) with the line un-commented (default situation) - "drum sound" at the beginning - "login sound" at desktop loading - master channel muted 2) with the line commented (Gavindi's solution) - "drum sound" - NO "login sound" - master channel unmuted This seems a real puzzle.
