I can confirm this behavior only with the colon in their name. I tested the other examples in these posts ( ) @ with no incident. I'm thinking this is specific to samba, since using nautilus the file does appear to copy ok at first, but when viewing from a windows machine the original file never appears, only the truncated-zero-byte file.
