So when reviewing the logs, you'll see it is recognized as an high-speed usb (2.0) device and attached to a USB 2.0 hub/port, still speeds are slow. They are all with the Sandisk flash drive. I rather not use my USB HDD since it holds valuable data. I bought it as a backup for migrating from 8.10 to 9.04.
