My ubuntu installation freezes too when I want to remove files from the Trash.
Everything is freezzed, keyboard, mouse, display... I can remove one file at a time but not a directory. When I try to delete files using a terminal window it freezes too if I should remove any directory. When i Try to remove a file inside a directory (in the trash) a error message box is displayed (Can't modify items in the trash). Ubuntu 9.04 (fresh install not an upgrade). ext4 file system. No other applications are running when I try to empty the trash.
