Tried to follow instructions as bes I could above, but issue is still unresolved.

Done Building tag database... Done >From previous experience, this points to a faulty port-install script. Does this fall in the domain of KVM or aptitude? Either way, this is a seriously bad bug, that I thought that I had dealt with definitively before.
