Tried to follow instructions as bes I could above, but issue is still
unresolved.

rebooted, COMPLETELY purged KVM, updated sources & tried again, as 
instructed/suggested:

`aptitude install kvm`

>From previous experience, this points to a faulty port-install script.
Does this fall in the domain of KVM or aptitude? 
Either way, this is a seriously bad bug, that I thought that I had dealt with 
definitively before.
(by setting line in "/var/lib/dpkg/info/kvm.postinst" to "update-rc.d kvm 
defaults >/dev/null")

Will file this as a new bug under apt, but I do not know if this is a
package-specific issue, or apt-wide
