I did everything mention above -- still no sound. I began messing with the sound settings only because I wasn't able to use Skype. Everything worked fine in Ubuntu 8.04. When I did the upgrade to 8.10 I lost my sound-capture. When I tried to fix the problem, I've lost all sound.
