A related (?) bug: After using Tim's fix, the e2x0 shows up as a mass storage device. So far so good.
But when I start Rhythmbox, the device disappears! It seems that Rhythmbox tries to reinitialize it as a MTP device when the mtpdevice plugin is enabled. I am having trouble determining how Rhythmbox/libmtp decides that it should try to open the device via MTP.
