In short: no.

The polite answer is that Ubuntu already has a roadmap for handling this
functionality, so adding a workaround in the Transmission code will be a
wasted effort.

In addition, the OP needs to understand that the buttons still exist on
platforms that support them. I think it's a very narrow viewpoint to
suggest that Transmission change its behavior on BSD, Fedora, SuSE,
Mandriva, Gentoo, etc. just because Ubuntu chose to remove this feature.

The downstream ticket is valid, because it affects "transmission
(Ubuntu)". This ticket is invalid because this is wholly an Ubuntu
issue, by Ubuntu's own choice and own doing.

Note: In addition, I'd like to say that the first time I heard that
Ubuntu wanted Transmission to add a Firefox-like download manager was
when I stumbled across it on NotifyOSD page. Nobody from Ubuntu has even
*spoken* to me about it, much less filed an enhancement request or
provided working code.
