Yes cal Dav is working fluently including multiple calendars, passwrd saving, creating new and reccuring events, and getting reminders, that's the reason why I opened a wishlist bug on bugzilla yesterday.
As far as I can see it from my point of view, it may be possible to replace the Google calendar option by caldav.
