I'm also experiencing this behavior. This started after I upgraded to 9.04 from 8.10 last week.
Steps to reproduce: - Open, for example, Firefox or Evince. - Select File -> Open file - Watch a hang for a few seconds. It seems to be related to the GTK/GNOME filebrowser.
