The problem does not occur on Jaunty Jackalope. I installed Jaunty Jackalope on one of my hard discs. I put three .jpg files in the Pictures folder and set screensaver to rotate them (<System>-<Preferences>-<Screensaver>).
The rotation started. The pictures continued to rotate.
