As requested, I performed a backtrace. I would like to add that I have also found this is directly related to the cross-fading feature of Rhythmbox. When I disable cross-fading, the problem does not occur and everything works as expected. I also experienced another problem which seems to be related to cross-fading. Unfortunately, I was not able to reproduce it during the backtrace. The problem is after a while of listening all of a sudden Rhythmbox will begin playing two songs at once. When you hit pause, the song that is displayed as being played on the interface stops playing and the other one continues playing. For now, I will leave cross-fading disabled.
