I waited several minutes. It was there the almost the whole time that I wrote this bug report. It only disappeared after I triggered another event.
After I logged in, I tried to mute my system as soon as I heard the Ubuntu login sound. So, yes, by mean the GNOME loading. I don't have time right now to try to make it happen again. Since it is probably a race condition, I didn't have time at the end of the semester to troubleshoot the problem.
