Public bug reported:

Honestly I am not sure what has triggered this crash between the upgrade
and my mocking around to get rid off KDE 4, that I previously installed
over Ubuntu 8.10 (it due the system has become a bit instable after
installing KDE), or it is the upgrade to latest Ubuntu version (which I
tried in the hope of solving the KDE problem.

Also with Intrepid I have had some trouble with java 6 doc installation,
as the Synaptic PM was asking to download it separately during the
installation process.

I've just tried to get the version of the package, as you ask and
Synaptic PM was unhappy and showed me this:

"
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to
correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
"

I tried and got this:
"

I opted to abort.

I'm relatively new to Ubuntu and Linux in general, so I'm sorry can't help that
much here.
I'm going to reinstall Ubuntu (either intrepid or the new one if I found it on
a CD somewhere tomorrow) from scratch.
