you could try making a temporary directory and start moving files/dirs into it from your home folder top level. It may be that one of the filenames is unusual in some way (character encoding maybe?) and triggers the crash. If you could locate the file it would be easier to reproduce the bug for someone else. It would also help to test a more recent thunar if you can as it may have already fixed this bug.
