I disagree - I think the apt-cacher bug is still present in Jaunty{

Extracts from apt-get update:

W: Failed to fetch
http://za.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/jaunty/restricted/i18n/Translation-en_ZA.bz2
  Error reading from server - read (104 Connection reset by peer)

W: Failed to fetch http://za.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/jaunty-
updates/Release.gpg Error reading from server - read (104 Connection
reset by peer)

But after commenting out the apt-cacher (Acquire::http::Proxy
"http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:3142";;), everything works.  E.g.

Get:1 http://za.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates Release.gpg [189B]
