Sorry for my late response. This problem doesn't exist on my current system (Ubuntu 8.10, kernel: 2.6.27-11-generic; maxima: 5.13.0-3ubuntu1; wxmaxima: 0.7.1-1ubuntu3). More probably than not you're right (Tim) that I've forgotten a semicolon at the end of a maxima-command. Even the problem in WxMaxima is vanished. But it could be in Ubuntu 8.04, maybe I will check this some days later.
