I have a similar problem - not sure if it is related, which is not
restricted to KDE. The Japanese Kanji for 'fix' (nao.su) is displayed
incorrectly - according to my Kanji dictionary, it is displayed using
the corresponding character from written Chinese.

Can be repeated by doing the following:
export LANG=en_US.UTF8
gedit

export LANG=ja_JP.UTF8
gedit

I've attached an image. I'm seeing the same incorrect character in
Firefox, Kate, and other applications.
