I have the same issue on a macbook pro with atheros wireless. I went
back to intrepid after installing jaunty because of this issue. Now, the
issue has resurfaced even in intrepid for some reason. I tried
installing the linux-backports modules but that actually made it worse.
My WAN (not wireless) connection would drop every minute or so and then
come back and drop again. Strangely I could still browse my LAN just
fine. I uninstalled the backports and that issue went away, but I still
have this annoying issue with a very weak wireless signal, and sudden
wireless becoming inoperable that is solved only with a reboot. The
wireless (and WAN) is fine in MAC OS X and Windows, which I also have
installed.
