I have since replaced my upgraded version with a clean install and no
problem so far. This time I have not turned on Compriz. Maybe that was
at fault.

Last time I was still able to move mouse, everything else was frozen.
Again, nothing in logs. Sysrq+b did let me boot.

After upgrading to 9.04 I have had two similar systrem freezes.. Everything 
stops, with screen/mouse frozen.. Nothing in the logs or reported.

It only been a few hours so will keep observing.
