Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: notify-osd

I had a notification bubble (indicating that the volume has been muted)
that would not go away. However, it would still go transparent on
mouse-over. After another event triggered a notification bubble, the
"sound-muted" bubble went away in a timely manner.

I muted the volume (using my hardware keys on my laptop) during boot the
instant that I heard the login sound. The notification bubble didn't
show up for some time (as expected since my computer was still booting
up).

(If someone can confirm this bug, then) I recommend this bug be of
lowest priority since you can get the bubble to go away by causing
another notification bubble.

1) Ubuntu 9.04

2) notify-osd version:
ty...@tyson-netbook:~$ apt-cache policy notify-osd
notify-osd:
  Installed: 0.9.11-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 0.9.11-0ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 0.9.11-0ubuntu3 0
        500 http://astromirror.uchicago.edu jaunty/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What I expected to happen:
Since my system was still booting, I didn't expect to even see the notification
bubble for muting my volume. I do not mind if notification bubbles are
displayed for events which happen during boot, but I expect them to go away in
a timely manner, just as they would for events which happen after booting is
finished.

4) What happened instead:
A notification bubble did not go away until another notification bubble was
created (for another event).
