The buddy synchronization error is now fixed by simply disabling the evolution plugin. The inability to log in a few months ago was fixed by using MSN pecan. I'm not willing to try Jaunty, as moving to the last non-LTS release (Intrepid) has been a nightmare. Being suddenly without sound, no Skype etc. has not been fun. I've been troubleshooting these problems for week in and week out, and finally have sound (though not simultaneous) and Skype (only audio). Not in the mood for Jaunty!
