Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!
Thanks for the upstream bug report number, also. I have updated the description to show the WorkAround given. Xfce 4.6.1 will be an upgrade in Jaunty 9.04. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xfce4-settings Starting the xfce4-settings-helper is very slow. My eeePC 700 needed 40 seconds from Login to Desktop, after disabling the autostart of xfce4 -settings-helper this changed to just over 20 seconds. When I start xfce4-settings-helper from terminal it also needs ~15 seconds to get ready, only for the first ~5 seconds it uses the maximum CPU. I added an strace log from a start from terminal below. The system is a jaunty Xubuntu with "xfce4-settings" 4.6.0-1ubuntu2 runing on a eeePC 700 (900 MHz Celeron) whose /home is on a SD-Card. + + WORKAROUND: + 1. Go to Xfc4 Settings Manager->Keyboard->Layout + 2. Click 'Use system defaults' ** Package changed: xfce4-settings (Ubuntu) => xfce4-session (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xfce4-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: xfce4-session (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged -- xfce4-settings-helper is slow on startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363664 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
