First try attaching the monitor before you power on the machine, boot
normally. If that doesn't behavor correctly please disconenct the
monitor and connect it again, and then attach the xorg.log afterwards.

Finally, does the situation improve if you add:
Option "AccelMethod" "UXA"
into the "Device" section of your xorg.conf and then reboot? This will likely 
machine you machine run faster but it will most likely also make X.org 
freeze/hang every now and then because the UXA mode is not entirely stable yet.
