This is probably due to the fact that Ubuntu released today and all mirrors are under extreme loads. If you try again in a day or so, it should work.
(If that hypothesis is correct, the real bug here is that Ubuntu is too popular. I'm not sure we want to fix that.) -- Upgrading to 9.04 went for 7 hours, then crashed.
