I think there is indeed a bug, or a lack of a choice on the FTP protocol
being used. I have access to a server allowing ftp connections, but not
sftp ones. Then, from the command line I can, as reported here, access
the server without any issues. Nautilius (I think the problem is in
gvfs) is not able to display the content on the server using the the FTP
with login option. The problem may be the ftp protocol being used in one
or other instance, I don't know. The nautilus complete error is:
The folder contents could not be displayed.
Sorry, could not display all the contents of "/ on xxx.xxx.xxx.br": DBus error
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes
include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security
policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection
was broken.
