Not as far as I can tell. There is no hibernate involved (at least since last boot). And the odd thing is that the machine went from apparently suspended (suspend light on) to apparently turned off (no suspend light, normal boot, but plenty of battery) while being carried around.
One possibility: there is something fishy about the battery and the docking station on the Lenovo T61 series. Sometimes the machines die suddenly and totally while being docked. Happens with the WIndows versions too. Then it stays absolutely dead ('On' key produces no result) until the battery has been removed and replaced. The error in question might possibly be a variant due to the battery being wiggled during transport. In which case the whole thing is a Lenovo hardware/bios issue, not a kernel issue. I did notice that the suspend light was off, though, before inserting the machine in the docking station. And no battery removal was necessary.
