** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg Hi. New to this. Don't see anything else listed like this. Not even sure if this is an Ubuntu problem, or an NVidia problem. Running 64 bit 8.10 on a Dell D830 laptop w/Quadro NVS 140M, using restricted drivers. Using the Nvidia Xserver settings app. NOT running Xinerama. Compiz installed, but no effects turned on. Single screen (laptop screen) works OK using v180 driver. Twinview (laptop screen and external screen via docking station) does NOT work using v180 driver. I can display one screen or the other, but I cannot turn on both together. Screen sizes indicate a full twinview screen (double width), and the working screen may scroll across to show the whole space, but the second monitor does not turn on. If I delete xorg.conf, both screens will turn on and mirror each other, but as soon as I try twinview, one or the other will turn off (depending on the last screen enabled). If I roll the driver back to v177, everything works as it did when I first set it up. This is what I am currently running. I can certainly survive using 177 (not sure what 180 brings to the party). Just thought I should mention it to someone... xorg.conf dump: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- # nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig # nvidia-xconfig: version 1.0 (buildmeis...@builder58) Wed Oct 1 15:12:53 PDT 2008 # nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings # nvidia-settings: version 1.0 (bui...@yellow) Thu Jun 5 09:27:12 UTC 2008 # xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file) # # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using # values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page. # (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.) # # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only* # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg # package. # # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated # again, run the following command: # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg Section "Monitor" Identifier "Configured Monitor" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Unknown" ModelName "DELL E248WFP" HorizSync 30.0 - 83.0 VertRefresh 56.0 - 76.0 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Device "Configured Video Device" Monitor "Configured Monitor" DefaultDepth 24 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Videocard0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 Option "TwinView" "1" Option "TwinViewXineramaInfoOrder" "DFP-0" Option "metamodes" "CRT: nvidia-auto-select +1920+0, DFP-0: nvidia-auto-select +0+0" SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "nvidia-auto-select" EndSubSection EndSection Section "Module" Load "glx" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Generic Keyboard" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbRules" "xorg" Option "XkbModel" "pc105" Option "XkbLayout" "us" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Configured Mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "CorePointer" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Synaptics Touchpad" Driver "synaptics" Option "SendCoreEvents" "true" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Protocol" "auto-dev" Option "HorizEdgeScroll" "0" Option "MinSpeed" "0.7" Option "MaxSpeed" "3" Option "AccelFactor" "0.03" EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Default Layout" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Generic Keyboard" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Configured Mouse" InputDevice "Synaptics Touchpad" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" Driver "nvidia" Option "NoLogo" "True" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Videocard0" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "Quadro NVS 140M" Driver "nvidia" Option "NoLogo" "True" EndSection Section "ServerFlags" Option "Xinerama" "0" EndSection ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: xorg 1:7.4~5ubuntu3 ProcEnviron: PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersion: Linux version 2.6.27-11-generic (bui...@yellow) (gcc version 4.3.2 (Ubuntu 4.3.2-1ubuntu11) ) #1 SMP Wed Apr 1 20:53:41 UTC 2009 SourcePackage: xorg Uname: Linux 2.6.27-11-generic x86_64 xkbcomp: + + [lspci] + 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Mobile PM965/GM965/GL960 Memory Controller Hub [8086:2a00] (rev 0c) + Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:01fe] + 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation Quadro NVS 140M [10de:0429] (rev a1) + Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:01fe]
